For Arielle Mark, home is where the art is. And at her eponymous gallery on Grand Avenue in downtown Englewood, just a few miles from her house in Tenafly, Mark is happy to spend most days overseeing displays, meeting with clients and researching new artists.
A native of Germany, Mark studied art at the Sorbonne before making her way to the United States. After a brief stint as a lawyer, she returned to her passion, ultimately fulfilling her dream in November 2007, when she opened Mark Gallery. The gallery sells paintings and 3-D works, in a range of styles as diverse as its media – though Mark confesses a particular affinity for Abstract Expressionism. She welcomes established and emerging artists, from near and far. These days, she mounts a new exhibit every six weeks, offering an updated array of works, and positioning her business as a Chelsea-style gallery with personalized service.
From time to time, the art Mark purchases for display becomes strictly personal. “I try to keep art in the gallery, but that doesn’t always work,” she explains, and some pieces make their way to her home. With three children (ages 11 through 17) who’ve clearly acquired her passion for the subject, that type of acquisition is not such a bad thing.
